Edmonton won just four games all of last season, and one of those was a 30-20 home win over Ottawa last August. This Edmonton team appears to have improved, but the results have not. They come into Week 6 with a record of 0-4, but their last three losses all came in games decided by just three points. Now they come out of a bye week, facing an Ottawa team that is 0-2 on the road and both losses came by 2+ scores. Ottawa has wins over Winnipeg and Hamilton who have a combined record of 1-9. It's worth pointing out that Edmonton's losses have come against the top two teams in the West and the top two teams in the East that own a combined record of 15-3.

Montreal is without a doubt the best team in the CFL right now. The defending champs have won their first four games and have averaged 32 points per game. Their most recent home game was a 47-21 win over Ottawa. They face a Calgary team tonight that is more of a threat offensively that the Red Blacks. Jake Maier has thrown four 830 yards, 5 TDs and 2 INTs on 74 percent passing in three games so far. He's likely going to have a rough night on the road at Montreal, but he's the type of QB that's capable of padding his stats in garbage time.

The Bombers lost their season opener to defending Grey Cup champions Montreal, followed by three more losses by a combined nine points. After being on the wrong end of three straight close games, a revenge game at home against Ottawa is a great spot for a "get right" game. While they lost starting QB Zach Collaros, they turn to Chris Streveler, who won a Grey Cup in Winnipeg in 2019. He's a prolific runner at the quarterback position, but some say he's not the most accurate passer. I will point out, he's replacing a guy (Collaros) who has completed 62 percent of his passes with no TDs and four INTs so far this season. The Redblacks come in with a pair of wins over winless opponents (incl WPG), and a blowout loss to Montreal. The Bombers defense and running game should be enough to get the monkey off their back and pick up their first win of the season.

The Bombers come into Cow Town as road favorites, despite the fact that they are 0-3 so far this season. Their top wide receiver has been ruled out for the season (Dalton Schoen), and QB Zach Collaros has yet to throw a TD pass, and has thrown three INTs. Calgary has a suspect defense, but QB Jake Maier has thrown for 591 yards, 4 TDs and 1 INT on 80 percent passing in two games. I am not ready to write off a Bombers team that has been the best team in the CFL over the last five seasons, but I can't lay points on the road with a winless team missing key players. I'll take the points with the home dog.

This game features two QBs that rank #1 and #2 in the CFL in passing. Vernon Adams Jr. leads the CFL with over 1000 passing yards, six TDs and just one INT. McLeod Bethel Thompson ranks second in the league with 978 yards and six TDs. BC has the edge on defense, only allowing 25 points per game. Edmonton has allowed a West Division worst 91 points in three games. Edmonton has gone over the total in seven of their last 10 overall, and they lost by a score of 37-29 in the most recent meeting last September. The Lions have also gone over in seven of their last 10 overall, and they scored an average of 28 points per game during that span. I expect the Lions to score 30+ here at home, and Edmonton should be good for 24+.

We saw the Ticats blow a big lead at home versus Saskatchewan last week, and we expect another shootout in Saskatchewan tonight. Both these teams have veteran QBs that are more than capable of slinging the ball around the yard, and neither teams has a defense that inspires much confidence. Last week's game saw a combined 63 points and both teams had 400+ yards of total offense. Trevor Harris and Bo Levi Mitchell both come in with 600+ passing yards, and a 71.1 percent completions percentage.

The Edmonton Elks pass happy offense comes into Toronto off back to back losses in the first two weeks of the season. Veteran QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson has averaged 42 pass attempts per game, leading the league. He's thrown for 636 yards and two TDs on 72.6 percent passing in losses to Saskatchewan and Montreal. The Argos beat the Elks 43-31 in Edmonton last June, and another barn burner seems probable here. Cameron Dukes threw for three TDs in his CFL debut in a 35-27 win over BC in Week 1.

They host the Redblacks on Thursday night, and Ottawa won their home opener 23-19 versus Winnipeg. Montreal has won five straight in this series, and three of the last four meetings went under. The Als won 19-12 at home last June. History tells us another low score is likely in this one.

Both the Riders and the Ticats went over the total in Week 1, which is outside the norm for early season CFL games. The two face off in Hamilton tonight, and history tells us that these teams have failed to reach the total in eight of 10 meetings. Saskatchewan scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to come back an win at Edmonton last week. They scored just eight points in the first three quarters. Hamilton scored just seven points in the first three quarters at Calgary, and it took 27 combined points to push that total over the number. The total for this game appears to be a bit inflated.

The Als defense dominated on the road in Winnipeg in Week 1, holding the Bombers to just a dozen points. Edmonton was looking good through three quarters at home versus Saskatchewan in Week 1, but they gave up 21 points in the fourth quarter and lost 29-21 to the Riders. Montreal had the #1 defense in the East last year, and Edmonton had the worst offense in the CFL. The Als have won nine of their last 10 games, and they have failed to reach the total in seven of their last 10. That says a lot about their style of play.

They should get back on track here on the road at Ottawa, with the advantage of having a game under their belt. These teams have failed to reach the total in four of the last five head to head meetings, and all five of those games were played in June and July.

Montreal is playing their best football down the stretch, and their defense has been formidable. There is no doubt that the Bombers deserve to be favorites, and you can call them the better team. The Als look dangerous in the role of the underdog, and it's hard to ignore their seven game winning streak. Montreal might be the best team in the CFL right here right now, and I don't think they are getting enough respect. I'll take the points.

The Blue Bombers are still the best team in the CFL, and they have owned the BC Lions. The Bombers are 8-2 straight up in the last 10 meetings, and they covered the spread in all eight of those wins. The last time BC went to Winnipeg, they lost 50-14 as a six-point underdog. The Lions defense has really struggled in the second half of the season, and they face a Winnipeg offense that is firing on all cylinders. The Lions are 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 playoff games, and they have failed to cover in six straight road games in the post-season. The Lions are 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 meetings in Winnipeg.

We often see low scores in the CFL playoffs, but most of the games are outdoors in the winter weather. BC plays in a dome, and we have a matchup between two of the league's top passing offenses. Vernon Adams was the league's leading passer, while Jake Maier was 3rd in the CFL in passing. The Lions were great defensively early in the season, but they have not stopped anybody in the final few weeks of the season. They gave up 41 in a loss to Calgary in their final home game.

The Argos are going to the Playoffs, so this is a game that they really have no interest in. They are expected to rest their starters, and the only goal here is to get out of Ottawa without sustaining any serious injuries. Ottawa has nothing to prevent them from laying it all out in their season finale, with guys playing for future roster spots. The home team should be able to close out a disappointing season with a home win in a game that is meaningless for their opponent.

This is a big game for both teams, as BC is still in the hunt for first place in the West, and Calgary needs a win just to make the playoffs. The Lions have gone over the total in six straight, and one of the reasons for that has been a lackluster defense. The Lions have allowed opponents to average over 30 points per game in their last six overall. Five of those games were wins, so they are clearly scoring more than their share as well. Calgary gets WR1 (Beggleton) back for tonight's game. We should see both teams score plenty.

So the Elks played last Friday, losing on the road at 1st place Toronto. The Als on the other hand played on Monday, setting up a game on short rest on the road. Montreal clinched 2nd place in the East with Hamilton losing to BC last night. This might prevent them from taking this game seriously, and it looks like a good spot to rest starters for the playoffs. The Elks are playing for a roster spot next year. “I really don’t care how they approach it,” he said, after letting the media know he was unhappy with the Elks’ concentration level at practice Thursday afternoon. “Ours is just come out and try to hit them in the mouth and be more physical than they are. If we don’t, it’s going to be real tough on us.” - said Chris Jones.

The BC Lions might be the better team here, but this is a tough spot. While a heartbreaking home loss to Winnipeg last week hasn't officially ended their quest to finish first in the West, it's likely only a matter of time. The Bombers only need to win one of their two remaining games, and they will be heavily favored in both of those contests. BC would need to win out, and hope for a miracle. I think they will still be reeling from last week's loss. Hamilton has been banged up all year, but they are coming off back to back wins over West Division opponents, and they have all their QBs back now after a long stretch with their 3rd stringer Taylor Powell. Matthew Shiltz threw for 271 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT on 16-of-18 passing in a 38-13 win at Saskatchewan last week. The Ticats look good as a home dog here.

The Als crushed the Redblacks in Ottawa last week, winning by a score of 32-15. Now they play at home versus Ottawa on Thanksgiving, and this is a big game for Montreal. Currently tied with Hamilton for second place in the East, the ALs will move ahead of the Ticats with a win over Ottawa. The Redblacks defense has allowed 27.4 points per game this season, only Saskatchewan has allowed more. Ottawa has lost six of seven road games, and they are 3-7 straight up in their last 10 versus Montreal.

Winnipeg leads the CFL in scoring, and they rank first scoring defense allowing 21 points per game. Zach Collaros has thrown a CFL best 29 TD passes, and he ranks 1st in the league with a QBR of 115.

Jake Maier is 2nd in the CFL in passing, and we should expect these teams to air it out here in Calgary tonight. Zach Collaros is banged up, and it might have to be Dru Brown, but the backup threw for 307 yards and four TDS on 17-of-24 passing after replacing Collaros last week. Calgary isn't exactly a defensive powerhouse, so expect the Bombers to move the ball regardless of who is under center. Winnipeg has gone over in five of their last six road games.

The Hamilton Ticats are down to their 3rd string QB after injuries to Bo Levi Mitchell and Matthew Shiltz. Taylor Powell has averaged 138 yards per game with just one TD and three INTs since taking over. Hamilton has averaged just 20 points per game, and only the Edmonton Elks have scored fewer. The Elks have averaged fewer than 17 points per game. Trey Ford made his debut last week, throwing for 189 yards, a TD and an INT on 12-of-16 passing. The Elks ran the ball for 173 yards on 21 carries. Both these teams will likely want to establish the run, and we should not be surprised to see a low scoring game between the two worst offensive teams in the league.

The Lions have covered the spread in six straight home games, and this looks like a good bounce back spot for BC.

As we try to figure out how good these teams really are, I want to point out that the Als three losses came against teams with a combined record of 19-4 (in other words, the three best teams in the CFL). Saskatchewan on the other hand has four wins, and two of them came against the worst team in the CFL (Edmonton). The Roughriders are 3-10-1 ATS in their last 14 games overall, and they have failed to cover in seven straight versus teams with a winning record.

While both teams come in with a 3-4 record, and a backup quarterback under center, the strength of schedule and extra rest has me looking at the home dog. The Riders losses came against Winnipeg, BC, Toronto and Calgary. They also lost to Calgary by just two points. Saskatchewan has won all three meetings since 2019, and all those wins came at home. Mason Fine has shown some potential, ranking near the top of the league in yards per pass (8.2) as well as completion percentage (74%).

The Lions have the second best record in the CFL going 6-1. Their only loss came against the undefeated Toronto Argos. They rank first in the league in scoring defense (by a country mile). The Bombers defense has not looked as good as it has been in recent years, and in Week 6 they blew a 16 point lead in the final two minutes, losing in overtime at Ottawa. While the history favors Winnipeg, the times change and the Lions appear to the better team getting a bunch of points in this matchup. After losing 30-6 at home to BC earlier this season, this is a revenge spot for the Bombers, but that doesn't mean they should be a six point favorite in my opinion.

Gonna keep this simple...say what you want about the Ottawa Redblacks, but the fact is that they have allowed fewer points than any other team in the CFL. They have a problem at quarterback though, with their fourth string quarterback set to start Saturday's game. His last meaningful football game was at the 2021 Idaho Potato Bowl. He faces a Bombers team that has held it's last two opponents to a combined 14 points. Ottawa has gone under in 20 of their last 28 overall, and they have gone under in four straight versus the Bombers.

Both these teams signed high profile quarterbacks during the off-season, and so far it hasn't worked out for either team. Jeremiah Masoli is expected to make his debut for Ottawa here this week, while Bo Levi Mitchell has been a bust for the Ticats. After throwing for 361 yards with a TD and four INTs, Mitchell has been sidelined. There are some huge revenge angles here for Ottawa, as they have lost seven straight to Hamilton. Masoli is not the only former Ticat now in Ottawa, Jaleon Acklin at WR and DE Lorenzo Mauldin were stars in Hamilton. This looks like a classic example of wrong team favored. The RedBlacks are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 meetings in Hamilton.

The Elks are 0-4, and they are coming off a blowout loss at Ottawa last week. As bad as things look for Edmonton, I think last week's game was closer than the score would indicate. The Elks did play a close game against the Riders in Week 1, losing by a score of 17-13. The Riders currently have 13 players on their injured lists, including starting centre Peter Godber and receivers Jake Weineke, Derel Walker, Brayden Lenius, Juwan Brescacin and Kian Schaffer-Baker. Saskatchewan is looking to snap a seven game home losing streak, and asking them to cover eight points might be asking too much. The road team is 5-1 straight up in the last six head to head meetings, and last year Edmonton won by a score of 26-24. The over is 11-5 in the Roughriders last 16 games following a bye week.

The Lions have the top ranked defense in the CFL, allowing just 21 points in three games. It's not like they have had a soft schedule, winning on the road at Winnipeg and Calgary. The Argos are 2-0, but their opponents are a combined 0-7 so far this season. Toronto's QB Chad Kelly has pedestrian numbers, especially when you consider the opponents he has faced. He's thrown for 502 yards a TD and two INTs on 59 percent passing in two starts. Vernon Adams has dealt with injuries at WR, but still ranks 3rd in the CFL in passing. He will get two of his top three targets back for tonight's game. The Lions are 13-6 ATS in their last 19 road games.

The Bombers injury woes were too much to overcome last week in a home loss to BC. It looks like they are still banged up heading into tonight's game in Montreal. The Als defense and running game looks strong, and that's a big plus as a home dog getting six points. I think Montreal should give the Bombers a run for their money.

Edmonton will be an underdog here in Ottawa Friday, in a matchup between possibly the two worst teams in the CFL. One of these winless teams is going to get it's first win here, but I don't think Ottawa deserves to be the favorite. The Redblacks quarterback situation doesn't look pretty. Starter Jeremiah Masoli is injured, and backup Nick Arbuckle has thrown for 286 yards, no TDs and four INTs on 55 percent passing in two starts. Ottawa is expected to roll out their third string quarterback who threw for 129 yards and an INT 9-of-17 passing after replacing Arbuckle last week. Jarrett Doege looked a lot better for Edmonton in the same role, completing 9-of-11 passes for a pair of TDs and an INT. Edmonton has won two of their last three at Ottawa, including a 30-12 win last August.

The Argos are defending champs, coming off an impressive home win at Hamilton in Week 2. They visit Edmonton, a team that has lost 18 straight home games dating back to 2019. The Elks are coming off a shutout loss to the B.C. Lions last week, and it seems like you're trying to re-invent the wheel if you're looking for the Elks to snap an epic losing streak here. Taylor Corneilius thre for 98 yards and a pick on 13-of-23 passing last week, and it's no surprise that the Elks rank dead last in the CFL in scoring.

Hamilton made a splash when they acquired Bo Levi Mitchell to be their starting quarterback, but he will not take the field here at home in Week 3. It will be backup Matthew Shiltz will take over, and he's thrown as many picks (13)as he has TDs in his career. The Als are coming off a bye, and their defense looked solid in a Week 1 win over Ottawa. They have a solid running game with Cody Fajardo and William Stanback. Fajardo threw for just 261 yards and no TDs in Week 1, but he was accurate and he moved the ball. I think the books have the wrong team favored here.

In the first two weeks of the season, only two of eight games saw more than 46 combined points. Of course both of those games were blowout wins for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The BC Lions might make life a little more difficult for the Bombers. BC comes in allowing just 7.5 points per game, fresh off a shutout win over Edmonton. The Lions have gone under in five straight road games, and the under is 15-6 in the Bombers last 21 home games. These teams have failed to reach the total in four straight meetings in Winnipeg. Both teams are banged up, with several key offensive players expected to miss this week's game.

Low scores at the beginning of the season are nothing new in the CFL, so it comes as no surprise that five of seven games have failed to reach the total so far. One of the two games that did go over the number was the Ticats loss to Winnipeg in Week 1. Hamilton scored 31 points in that game, but most of that scoring came in garbage time. They trailed 29-4 at halftime, and Bo Levi Mitchell threw for just 200 yards, 1 TD and 2 INT on 17-of-33 passing in the loss. Mitchell has the lowest completion percentage in the CFL after Week 1. The under is 16-7 in the Tiger-Cats last 23 games in June, and the under is 17-4 in the Argonauts last 21 games in June.

Surely the Edmonton Elks have to be better than they were a year ago. They ranked dead last in the CFL in scoring defense, and it wasn't even close. This is a tough spot for the Elks on the road, facing a BC team that has won the last four meetings by an average margin of 32 points. Vernon Adams Jr. might not be Nathan Rourke, but throwing for 300 yards, 2 TDs and an INT in a blowout win at Calgary in Week 1 is a positive sign.

I am not big on either of these two teams, but with money coming in on Calgary I'll take the points here with the home dog. It's a battle between two former Stampeders backups, who each played behind Bo Levi Mitchell. Neither of them had much success in Week 1, and we should expect another low scoring game here in Ottawa. The Stamps will miss leading rusher Kadeem Carey, and I am not convinced that this offense is good enough to be favored by a TD.

Both teams look to have improved offensively in the off-season, and the total for their season opener looks a little low. I am optimistic about Vernon Adams Jr. taking over for Nathan Rourke. He steps into a far better situation than in previous years in Montreal. The Lions had the league's best offense last year, and many of those pieces are still in place heading into 2023. Dominic Rhymes, Lucky Whitehead and Jevon Cottoy were all productive last year. The Stampeders also have a new QB, and Jake Maier looked good after taking over from Bo Levi Mitchell last year. He could be in a tough spot in Week 1 with a couple of offensive lineman and a key receiver expected to miss the opener.

The Argos finished first in the East, but Montreal was the hottest team in the CFL in the second half of the season. Trevor Harris finished third in the CFL in passing, and he completed 80 percent of his passes in a win over Hamilton in the East Semi Final. William Stanback missed the majority of the regular season, but the leading rusher in the CFL in 2021 is healthy for the playoffs. He ran for 66 yards on 10 carries in the win over the Tiger Cats. Montreal has won six of the last 10 meetings between these teams, and the four games they lost were decided by an average margin of fewer than three points.

"And there's probably some guys playing that you may have liked to rest or they may have wanted to rest." The Lions on the other hand still have plenty to play for here at home.

We could have a shootout on our hands, as Calgary scored 56 points in a win over Edmonton last week. Both teams are banged up in the secondary and along the defensive line, and that could open things up for both QBs. The last time these teams played it was BC winning by a score of 41-40. Prior to that it was Calgary winning 33-23. I expect another high score here on Saturday.

The total for this game stands out to me, and I am convinced that this number is inflated because both these teams gave up 50+ points last week. The total was listed well below 50 in each of the last six head to head meetings between these teams. The Riders are averaging just 23 points per game this season, while Edmonton has averaged just over 20 points per game. Prior to last week, the Riders defense had been solid allowing just over 24 points per game. The Elks do rank dead last in the CFL in scoring defense, but they face a Riders offense that has been hit hard by injuries. These teams have failed to reach the total in four of the last five in Regina.

The Lions lead the CFL in scoring despite playing only 10 games (most teams have played 12). They lost their first game since the injury to Nathan Rourke (leads the CFL in passing), but they have had plenty of time to regroup coming off a bye week. They picked up former Oregon Ducks QB Vernon Adams Jr. in a trade with Montreal, and he could face his former team here on Friday night. The Lions have owned this Als team, winning nine of the last 10 meetings. BC is still undefeated in road games this season. The Alouettes are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 home games. This is a great spot to back BC.

While the Ticats turn to a rookie QB, this is a good spot for the home team. A revenge game in the Labor Day Classic, versus their biggest rival. The Argos have lost four of their last five at Hamilton, and it's widely considered the toughest place to play in the CFL. This team is particularly tough to beat at this time of year, the Tiger-Cats are 7-0-2 ATS in their last nine games in September. Hamilton owns the CFL's top ranked run defense, and they are good at getting to the QB with 25 sacks in 11 games so far in 2022. The Argonauts are 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 meetings in Hamilton. History favors the home team.

So Nathan Rourke is sidelined with an injury, and the Lions quarterback leads the CFL in passing yards as well as TDs. So how will the Lions fare without him? I personally think they will do just fine. In fact I think Michael O'Connor is stepping into an ideal situation. It wouldn't surprise me at all if this moment is remembered similar to Cardale Jones stepping in for JT Barrett at Ohio State and winning a National Championship. Or Kurt Warner stepping in at quarterback for the Rams and winning a Super Bowl. The Lions are stacked with talent, studs on the offensive line, a talented receiving corpse and a dynamic running back in James Butler. Last year O'Connor beat out Dakota Prukop for a roster spot in Calgary, and he had a solid training camp with the Lions this summer. Meanwhile they face a Saskatchewan team that benched their starting QB in a 28-10 home loss to BC last week. Cody Fajardo has been playing with a knee injury, and his ineffective play can likely be blamed on his injury. The Lions don't have to reinvent the wheel here, and they should be able to beat a banged up Saskatchewan team at home Friday.

The Stamps are coming off a 41-40 shootout loss to the mighty BC Lions. They are on the road in Toronto Saturday night, and it's unlikely that the Argos can keep up with that kind of offense. Toronto quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson has been inconsistent, and losing leading rusher Andrew Harris will put more pressure on him. The Stampeders are 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 meetings, and they have won eight of the last 10 outright. They are 15-0 ATS in their last 15 games in Week 11, and they are 7-1 ATS in their last eight coming off a loss.

Dane Evans ranks 3rd in the CFL in passing, and while his TD/INT ratio appears concerning, he's thrown three TD passes and no INTs in two games against East Division opponents. The Tiger-Cats are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six meetings in Toronto, and they are 18-7-2 ATS in their last 27 meetings. The Argonauts are 1-5 ATS in their last six versus East Division teams.

They still have some injury concerns, and playing the BC Lions on a short week isn't ideal. Their biggest problem is that quarterback Cody Fajardo has been playing on one leg. The Lions are 4-1, and they boast the CFL's #1 ranked offense. The Lions are well rested coming off a home win over Hamilton last Thursday. Saskatchewan comes into this game with 36 players on the injury report. Many of those players are probable, but there is no question that the Riders are going to be short-handed.

Strength of schedule favors the home team, who lost by a single point at home to defending champs Winnipeg in their last game. Their other loss came on the road against the Lions in Vancouver. The top two teams in the CFL meet tonight in Winnipeg, and only one team will come away with their perfect record intact. The Bombers are defending champs two years running, and they have won 11 straight home games dating back to the beginning of last season. The Stampeders come in looking like contenders, but strength of schedule warns they may be pretenders. With wins over Montreal, Hamilton and Edmonton, their opponents have a combined record of 2-12. The Bombers defense ranks #1 in the CFL, and that could be the difference here.

The Edmonton Elks are coming off a 49-6 home loss to Calgary, falling to 1-4 on the season. Edmonton has not yet had a bye week, and the grueling schedule has taken it's toll. This team is banged up with several injuries to key players, and they play on the road against a well rested Montreal team. The Als are coming off a bye week, looking to bounce back from a 41-20 loss at Saskatchewan. They scored 37 points in a 24-point win over the Riders in their last home game. Despite losing QB Tre Ford with a leg injury, Edmonton traded their Week 1 starter Nick Arbuckle to Ottawa on Monday. Needless to say, they have some serious issues with their QB depth. This should be a blowout.

The Lions are off to an impressive start going 3-0 and scoring over 44 points per game. Despite playing one fewer game than Winnipeg, the Lions have scored 50 more points (OMG am I reading that right?). Not only that, their defense has been outstanding as well. This is a tough spot for the Bombers, who just barely survived in a 23-22 win at Toronto on Monday, and now travel to Vancouver on short rest. The Lions haven't played since last Thursday, so they should have a significant advantage when it comes to rest and time to prepare. Winnipeg was outscored 19-6 in the second half of Monday's win over Toronto, and it wouldn't be any surprise to see that carry over into this road game just five days later.

The Stampeders are coming off a 30-23 home win over Edmonton in Week 3, and the final score might suggest that the game was closer than it actually was. Calgary was in full control, but the Elks scored twice in the final two minutes to get a back door cover. The Stamps had last week off, giving them more time to prepare for this week's game at Edmonton. The Elks are coming off a surprising upset win at Hamilton, and they took advantage of a second half collapse by the Ticats. Hamilton turned the ball over four times, and Dane Evans was picked off twice. Trey Ford got his first win at QB for the Elks, despite completing only 57 percent of his passes and throwing for 159 yards with a TD and an INT. Playing a well rested Calgary team looks like a let down spot for the Elks.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are defending champions, and they come into this game in first place tie with B.C. and Calgary. This is a tough spot for them however, playing on the road versus an Eastern Conference team, with a marquee matchup versus B.C. coming up just days later. This is also a big spot for Toronto, coming off a blowout loss at B.C. in just their second game of the season. Starting QB MacBeth was heated when he was taken out of the game late in Vancouver. It was not due to poor play, as he completed 15-of-21 passes for 174 yards, but the Argos defense just couldn't get off the field. The home team has won five straight and eight of the last nine head to head meetings. The Argos beat Winnipeg 30-23 at home last season. The over is 9-1 in the last 10 head to head meetings, and the losing team has scored over 20 points in seven of those 10 games.

While you don't want to overreact to the Als winning the first leg of this home and home series by a score of 37-13, you also can't ignore that since the change at quarterback their offense has been on fire. Trevor Harris replaced Vernon Adams in Week 2 in Toronto, and Montreal lost that road game by just a single point. He comes into Week 4 ranking second among CFL starters in yards per pass, and 3rd in efficiency rating. His numbers are considerably better than his counterpart Cody Fajardo. The last time the Als played at Saskatchewan, they lost by a score of of 27-25. I expect a similar score here tonight.

While the Lions play on the road for the first time this season, on short rest and without their star WR Bryan Burnham, they are only a slight favorite against a winless Redblacks squad. This actually looks like a good setup for a play on the home dog (situational), but I am not sure these teams are close in terms of talent. The Lions out-scored their first two opponents a combined 103-18. Nathan Rourke has completed 88 percent of his passes for over 700 yards and no picks. Their most recent opponent was a pretty talented Toronto team. Jeremiah Masoli threw for over 5000 yards and 28 TDs in 2018 in Hamilton, but has pedestrian numbers over the last two seasons. Last year he lost his job to Dane Evans. While I expect the Redblacks to give the Lions a run for their money, BC has won five straight head to head versus this team, and they are still the better team IMO.

The Lions didn't just win their home opener, they dropped a whopping 59 points on the sad sacked Edmonton Elks. Nathan Rourke threw for 282 yards and three TDs on 26-of-29 passing. James Butler scored four TDs and ran for over 100 yards. The defense was just as impressive, forcing four turnovers and allowing just 15 points. The Argos won their home opener, but it was far less impressive. They just barely edged out Montreal by a score of 20-19. The Argos last visit to BC ended in a blowout loss by a score of 55-8, and the home team has won four of the last five head to head meetings. An extra week to prepare will also be an advantage for the home team here.

The Hamilton Tigercats really faded at the end of last season, and it's been a slow start to 2022. They are in a tough spot this week, playing on the road at Winnipeg where the defending Grey Cup champs are 16-1 since 2018. The Bombers have showed no signs of slowing down, ranking 1st in the CFL in scoring defense heading into Week 3. Only Edmonton has allowed more points per game than Hamilton so far in 2022. Only the Elks QB has thrown more INTs (5) than Dane Evans (4) so far this season. Zach Collaros has thrown for 416 yards with three TDs and one INT in the first two weeks. The Bombers should probably be favored by at least a TD here.

It's typical to see low scoring games in the first few weeks of the CFL season, but last year we saw scoring down overall. That's particularly true for Calgary as the Stamps ranked second in the West in scoring defense. The Als ranked second in the East in scoring defense. These two teams have gone under in nine of the last 13 head to head meetings. The under is 13-5 in the Stampeders last 18 games in June, and the under is 19-3 in the Alouettes last 22 games in June. Calgary held the Elks to just seven points in their final game of the pre-season.

The Hamilton Ticats are the best team in the ... Eastern Conference. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers though are the best team in the CFL. The Bombers rank 1st in the CFL in scoring defense allowing just 13.4 points per game. Bombers QB Zach Collaros ranked 2nd in the CFL in passing yards, 1st in TDs, and 1st IN QBR. Winnipeg has won their last two games versus Hamilton (2021 & 2019) both by double digits. The Tiger-Cats are 3-11-2 ATS in their last 16 games as a home underdog, and the Blue Bombers are 4-1 ATS in their last five playoff road games.

Hamilton's defense was dominant in a 23-12 win over Montreal in the East Semifinal. The Ticats forced five turnovers, and sacked Trevor Harris six times. Toronto will be lucky if their QB is able to start this game, after he violated Covid19 protocols during the week. The miscue caused him to miss practice during the week. The under is 6-0 in the Tiger-Cats last six games as an underdog, and offense could be hard to come by in December in Toronto with snow in the forecast.

Montreal had a chance to secure home field for this game, but they lost at home to a last place team with a rookie QB, and now they will visit Hamilton. Home field could be quite significant here, as there are few places tougher to play than Steel Town. The iger-Cats are 13-4-1 ATS in their last 18 home games, and they have covered in five straight home playoff games. The Als most dangerous weapon on offense is RB William Stanback, but he matches up against a Ticats run defense that ranks 1st in the CFL allowing just 79.6 rushing yards per game, and a league low 4.2 yards per carry. Jeremiah Masoli finished the season strong after missing four games, and ranked second in the CFL in yards per attempt (9). The Als picked up Trevor Harris after the injury to Vernon Adams, and Harris has played well, but it's still a downgrade.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have already clinched a playoff spot, so they will not have the majority of their offensive starters on the field when they visit Hamilton Saturday. The Tigercats have also clinched a playoff spot, but they still have a chance to lock up home field advantage. This should be quite a mismatch with Hamilton's starters going up against the Riders backups. The Tiger-Cats are 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 games as a home favorite, and they are 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 home games.

The BC Lions host the Edmonton Elks Friday, and neither of these two teams are headed to the playoffs. BC ranks dead last in the West Division in scoring defense, and Edmonton isn't far behind. Lions QB Mike Reilly leads the CFL in passing, and he's got some of his top receivers back. He should have little trouble carving up this Edmonton defense. The over is 6-1 in the Elks last seven games following a straight up win, and the Lions have gone over in five straight. I expect to see another high score here in Vancouver.

I bet the over when these two teams played four weeks ago, and here is what I said prior to the game: "It's no secret that scoring is down in the CFL this season, and perhaps that can be explained by almost a two year layoff. The bookmakers have been offering lower numbers every week, and I think this presents an opportunity to capitalize on an over-correction. Here in this game both QBs are former league MVPs (MOP). Both teams come in averaging over 23 points per game, even though both these star QBs missed time early in the season. This is by far the lowest total in the previous 10 head to head meetings between these teams, and the average total was over 50." Calgary won that game by a score of 39-10, and I expect another high score here in BC tonight.
