09/03 09:00 PM EST CF (183) CLEMSON VS (184) AUBURN. Take: (183) CLEMSON, Reason: Auburn will be sky-high with mighty Clemson in town, but the visitors have more talent, a better defense and a huge edge at QB. Clemson has Heisman frontrunner Deshaun Watson back at quarterback. He dazzled as a sophomore, becoming the first FBS quarterback to pass for more than 4,000 yards and rush for 1,000-plus yards. He is joined by 1,527-yard rushing workhorse Wayne Gallman and the return of several top receiving targets, including Mike Williams. Clemson is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games. Auburn has major QB problems. Auburn coach Gus Malzahn has named sophomore Sean White the starting quarterback but hinted both Jeremy Johnson and John Franklin III could play this season. They played last year too -- badly! Auburn is on a 5-16 ATS run, including 1-10 ATS at home. Play Clemson.

Thompson should provide a high-quality target for the Eagles after snagging 55 balls for 779 yards a season ago. Mullens was an incredible 51-for-68 for 762 yards, five touchdowns and zero interceptions when facing third-and-7 or longer last season. A pair of powerhouse programs clash, both with defenses far better than the offenses. A road trip for LSU to open the season, heading to Lambeau Field and the wild Wisconsin fans. LSU has a fierce defense but a one-dimensional offense than can't pass. They run into a strong Wisconsin defensive front that was No. 1 in college football in points allowed last season. Coming off a 10-win campaign of a season ago, which included a bowl victory over USC, Wisconsin returns 11 starters. Five starters are back on offense, anchored by three along the offensive line, and that doesn't include running back Corey Clement, who missed most of last season to injuries. Six starters are back from a defense that limited opponents to just 269 yards and 14 points per game last year. Wisconsin is going with senior Bart Houston. He was a backup to Joel Stave the last few seasons, and appeared in 15 games overall. Houston's most extensive action came last season on Oct. 24 in a 24-13 win at Ilinois, when he went 22 of 32 for 232 yards with two touchdowns. The Badgers won five times outright in their last 11 spots as underdogs, going 8-3 against the spread in the process. This will be a close defensive duel so grab the home dog with the dominant D. A long road trip for UCLA heading to Texas for a tough opener against a fast A&M squad. Sophomore quarterback Josh Rosen leads the Bruins, but he was erratic against good competition last year as a freshman. The Bruins are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games. Texas A&M has a new offensive coordinator in Noel Mazzone, who was the UCLA OC the last four years. Texas A&M has speed on offense and a strong pass rush. The Aggies have one of the nation's best in defensive end Myles Garrett, who led the SEC last season with 12 1/2 sacks, 19 1/2 tackles for loss and five forced fumbles. On the opposite end is Daeshon Hall, who contributed seven sacks, 14 1/2 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles last season, including four sacks and both forced fumbles in the season opener against Arizona State. They have a new quarterback in junior college transfer Richard Lagow and a terrible defense. Florida International is home, off a 5-7 campaign with key offensive talent returning. These teams met last year in Indiana, a 14-point Hoosier win, but that was misleading: Florida International led 22-19 in the fourth and the overall yardage was almost even, with both clubs topping 400 yards. Stanford has the dynamic Heisman candidate in RB Christian McCaffrey (1,847 yards, 5.8 ypc), but Iowa has a huge edge defensively and a fine, balanced offense. (12-1) Iowa is a dog but has one of the best defensive in the nation. The defense is 21st in yards allowed, 13th in scoring (18.5 ppg) and 11th rush defense (114.9 yds pg). Florida's offense has sputtered without suspended quarterback Will Grier as the Gators were held to 17 points in their last two games, and couldn't manage an offensive score in the 27-2 setback to Florida State on Nov. 28. Michigan's Jake Rudock suffered a shoulder injury in the 42-13 loss to Ohio State, and it was initially feared that he would miss the bowl game, but the senior quarterback will make his final collegiate start on New Year's Day. Rudock struggled with the command of a new offense after transferring from Iowa before ending the season on a tear by throwing for 1,296 yards and 11 touchdowns in his last four games. Early start here on Monday for the Military Bowl between Pitt and Navy. Bowl games always a bit tough on these teams as they usually have long layoffs between their final game and the Bowl game. Pitt played just over a month ago, losing their final game to Miami-Florida, 29-24. Today's game will feature the Pitt rush defense against the Navy triple option attack. Both clubs are rushing attack teams, so I expect a lower scoring contest here on Monday. The last triple option team that Pitt faced was Georgia Tech, back on November 17th. The Panthers won that game 31-28. The Panther's rush defense was ranked 19th in the country with just 126.1 ypg allowed. Navy gets a bit of home field here with this game in Annapolis, MD. Navy is pretty much a rush team, behind their 319 ypg rushing (3rd in the country). Expect a lot of ground and pound in today's game. I like the points here even with the game in Navy's backyard. Take Pittsburgh.

They've been forced to go with freshman QB Jarrett Stidham (9 TDs, 0 INTs) because of an injury to Seth Russell, but Stidham was a blue chip prospect and has played like it. Baylor can pass with all that speed but don't forget they average 308 yards rushing, No. 5 in the nation. Baylor is 26-7 ATS at home, 20-8 ATS vs a winning team and 23-11-1 ATS in Big 12 play. No. 15 Oklahoma led 14-3 at home in last year's meeting, then Baylor scored 45 straight points in a 48-14 rout. Baylor is 4-0 ATS last four meetings and will roll again. Play Baylor!

They run into a terrific Indiana offense with speed, giving unbeaten Iowa a go last week, putting up over 400 yards on the Great Hawkeye defense in a close one. Indiana lost its fifth straight game after dropping a 35-27 decision to fifth-ranked Iowa. Nate Sudfeld set a new program record when he threw the 49th touchdown pass of his career in the loss to Iowa and he will be one of the players honored on Senior Day at Memorial Stadium. Sudfeld leads the Big Ten with 278.6 passing yards per game. The Hoosiers are 11-3-1 ATS in their last 15 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. Georgia Southern is a run-oriented team, with their two QBs combining for one TD pass and eight picks on the year. Troy has a dynamite offense scoring 51, 44 and 52 points the last three games. Alabama comes off the big blowout of LSU but now heads out on the road to face a strong Mississippi State squad. Alabama is 0-4 ATS after a spread cover and 1-7-1 ATS after allowing fewer than 170 yards passing in their previous game. They faced a one-dimensional LSU offense last week, a team that couldn't pass the football. They face a very different Mississippi State offense this week. The Bulldogs have averaged 40.75 points during their four-game winning streak and are coming off a 31-13 victory at Missouri. Mississippi State is on a 6-2 ATS run, 12-5 ATS against winning teams, and 5-1 ATS at home. The Tar Heels (5-0 ACC) can claim a share of the Coastal Division title and a trip to the league championship game with a win over Miami. This North Carolina offense is deadly behind QB Marquise Williams (15 TDs, eight INTs), a two-way threat who has 558 yards rushing. Arkansas State (6-3) has plenty to play for, on a sizzling 5-0 SU/3-2 ATS run. And they've been blowing out the competition, winning by 14, 18, 10 14 and 13 with a deadly offense. Arkansas State is 5-0 in Sun Belt Conference play and took sole possession of first place last week with a 40-27 victory at Appalachian State, putting it in a position to control its own destiny in the league race with three regular-season games remaining. The Red Wolves are 23-11-1 ATS in their last 35 conference games. UL Monroe is a mess at 1-8. ULM?has dropped its last seven outings after knocking off Nicholls State 47-0 on Sept. 12. They come off a 51-14 loss to Troy and also got flogged by Appalachian State, 59-14. They've allowed over 50 points four times! Bowling Green is getting too much respect from oddsmakers in this tough road game. The Falcons are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game. Western Michigan is 5-0 in the MAC and will probably face BG in the MAC title game. First-place Western Michigan has three tough games still ahead vs. Bowling Green, Northern Illinois and Toledo. Junior quarterback Zach Terrell continued his climb up the charts as one of the best players in the MAC and one of the all-time greats at Western Michigan. He has 23 this season, good for second in the MAC and 10th in the country. He now has 57 for his career, good for fourth in program history. The Broncos are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games overall, 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games. Last season Jarvion Franklin ran for 141 yards and the Broncos allowed Bowling Green to possess the ball for just 1:25 in the fourth quarter in Western Michigan's 26-14 win. Joe Licata threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Matt Weiser with 58 seconds left to give Buffalo an 18-17 victory over Kent State in the last game. It was the defense that kept them in the game. Buffalo allowed the Golden Flashes to amass a total of 261 yards. In a game where the Bulls had no flow on offense until the near end, the defensive was much-needed. The Chippewas are 5-4 overall with a three-game winning streak and are coming off a bye, while Toledo (7-1) was undefeated and ranked 20th nationally before losing 32-27 to Northern Illinois last Tuesday. Toledo hasn't played many road games and the Rockets are 0-4-1 ATS following a loss. The Chippewas defense should give Toledo a run for its money. CMU leads the MAC in fewest total yards allowed per game (317) and fewest passing yards allowed per game (182). CMU has allowed only one 100-yard receiver and two 100-yard rushers. Safety Kavon Frazier, linebacker Tim Hamilton and defensive lineman Blake Serpa have all been named MAC West Defensive Player of the Week this season. Central Michigan is quietly on a 9-1 spread run and the Chippewas are 44-20-2 ATS in their last 66 games following an ATS win. And the Home team is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 meetings. The Golden Bears are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games. Oregon has taken a step back and still struggles on defense. Oregon is off a wacky, three-overtime affair with Arizona State last Thursday. The Oregon secondary was supposed to be rebuilt this season. Instead, it's been a disaster, allowing more touchdowns passes, 27, than any other FBS team. This is a great spot for Bear QB Jared Goff to rebound from a rocky October by peppering the Ducks with tight spirals in the direction of Kenny Lawler, Bryce Treggs and Trevor Davis. 11/07 08:00 PM EST CF (395) LSU VS (396) ALABAMA Take: (395) CFB Inner Circle Bailout Blowout: LSU. LSU has a super-talented defense, one of the best in the nation, ranked 19th in yards allowed. They shut down Bama a year ago, blowing a late lead in a wild 20-13 Bama win in OT. Neither team had many yards and this shapes up as another close one. Sophomore QB Brandon Harris (9 TDs, 0 INTs, 1,102 yards, 58.5%) leads the only passing game in the nation without a pick while sophomore RB Leonard Fournette (1,336 yards, 7.7 ypc) is already a star. LSU is 4-1 ATS in SEC play, plus 6-2 ATS after a bye. Alabama QB Jake Coker (11 TDs, 7 INTs) has not been that impressive and the Tide is on an 8-17-1 ATS run, including 5-14-1 ATS in the SEC. 11/07 07:30 PM EST CF (375) UTAH VS (376) WASHINGTON Take: (376) WASHINGTON Reason: The Utah Utes are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 conference games. The Washington Huskies have one of the better defenses in the Pac-12 -- allowing just 3.2 yards per rush -- and will be gunning to slow down Devante Booker. Washington is coming off a 49-3 victory over Arizona that easily rates as its top performance of the season. Quarterback Jake Browning returned from a one-game absence due to a shoulder injury to notch one of his best performances of the season against Arizona with 263 yards and a season-best four passing touchdowns plus one running score. Browning and fellow freshman Myles Gaskin (655 rushing yards, six touchdowns) represent the future for a team that is currently more fearsome on the defensive side. The Huskies allow 16.9 points per game and have a trio of solid players in senior outside linebacker Travis Feeney (conference-leading 6.5 sacks), sophomore inside linebacker Azeem Victor (team-best 64 tackles) and junior cornerback Kevin King (team-high three interceptions). Washington has won all eight meetings - the most recent being a 34-15 victory in 2012. The Huskies are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games on fieldturf, so grab home field. Play Washington!

TCU is also unbeaten but the Frogs have been shaky defensively on the road giving up 45 points in a 52-45 win at K-State and a 55-52 squeaker at Texas Tech. TCU is 2-5 ATS on the road. 11/07 12:00 PM CF (359) PENN STATE VS (360) NORTHWESTERN Take: (359) CFB Inner Circle Insider: Penn State. Penn State (7-2) has bounced back nicely this year with a strong defense allowing just over 17 ppg. The Nittany Lions have just one loss in the conference, sitting behind undefeated Ohio State and Michigan State, but wins over Michigan (3-1 in the Big Ten) and the undefeated Spartans in their final two regular-season tilts could help the Lions sneak into the conference championship game. And Penn State is coming off its most complete game of the season, a 39-0 thrashing of Illinois in which surging Christian Hackenberg completed 21-of-29 passes for 266 yards and two touchdowns while the defense held the Illini to just 167 total yards. Northwestern raced to a 5-0 start, culminating in a 27-0 victory over Minnesota to get it into the Top 25. The Nittany Lions are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on grass. The Nittany Lions are tied for ninth in the nation in fewest penalty yards per game (38 yards per game) and 17th in turnover margin (0.89). Northwestern has been terrible on offense and the Wildcats are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 home games. Northwestern has converted just 29.2 percent (7-of-24) of its red zone trips into touchdowns, the lowest rate in FBS, and the Nittany Lions are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings. Play Penn State!
