For the first time since the Associated Press been selecting All-Americans, one school has six players on the All-American Team…Alabama.

In addition to running back and Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, the other Alabama Crimson Tide players to make the All-American team include linebacker Rolando McClain, defensive tackle Terrence Cody, cornerback Javier Arenas, guard Michael Johnson, and kicker Leigh Tiffin.

This was the second straight year Cody was named and the first for the rest of this squad.

Since 1964 only twice before has someone had five players on any All-American Team and that was Oklahoma both times.

This could potentially be the best team in the last half century to wear Crimson in addition to being one of the strongest and deepest teams ever. And with Nick Saban stocking the shelves with so many top rated recruiting classes, this may be the first of many type teams.

The Tide is one game away from immortalizing themselves with other great Alabama teams from the past and claiming their 13th National Championship.

Such a win is sure to enter them into the debate for top team of all time. This will be the first Alabama team ever to knock off the nation’s number one and two teams in consecutive games should they better the Texas Longhorns in just a few days.

By naming a record breaking six players to the All America team, the Associated Press feels that would be a team worthy of being in that debate.
