Rating: 4 Unit Big-10 Game of the Week Sure, there are legions who won't hesitate in jumping on the Wildcats as such heavy dogs, as they've thrived in the pup role for many years, including current 16-5 spread run in that setup, much less as 4-TD dogs. Fact of the matter is that they not only lost their last home game by a 34-10 score (Wisconsin), but can't approach matching points with such a huge juggernaut, ranking 128th in scoring (14.4 ppg). Compare that to Bucks at 50.2 points per game, while playing their starters for little more than a half of every game. We gladly lay the huge spot..

However, for the life of us, we simply cannot see the Hawkeyes as the underdog in this important match. The Wolverines finally got it together with last week's drubbing of a totally lacking Rutgers outfit, for their first cover of the year, which followed their embarrassing loss to Wisconsin (359-37 rushing yard deficit). Rating: 3 Unit Bowl Upset of the Day For the 2nd straight year, the Knights of Central Florida have made it through the regular season unscathed. And for the second consecutive season have been rewarded with a New Year's Day bowl game against an SEC power. A year ago, it was the Peach Bowl, vs the 10-3 & #7 Tigers of Auburn, who were expected to put an end to this false challenger. But things don't always pan out, & didn't in that one, as UCF (+9½) turned a 20-13 deficit in the 3rd, into a 34-20 lead in the 4th, en route to the 34-27 upset. Knight QB Milton was just 16-of-35, but 242 passing yards (2/0), along with 116 rushing yards (8.9 ypr). Before entering that one, the Knights barely got by Memphis, 62-55, in their AAC title game. Ditto this year, as UM (+3) led 38-21 at intermission, with 336 rushing yards, only to go down 56-41, with 65 2nd half rushing yards. Check a 252-134 rushing yard edge over Cincinnati, which out rushed its other 11 opponents. The loss of Milton (knee) on Nov 23rd mattered little as backup QB Mack was 19-of-27 for 348 passing yards & 2/0, while rushing for 4 TDs, with Knights totaling 34 first downs, 350 rushing yards, & 348 passing yards. And they haven't missed a beat, with the replacement of HC Frost, for Heupel. Another "upset"?

Rating: 3 Unit Bowl Game Play of the Day The Wolves were ranked 4th in the land, with a Final Four Playoffs spot a given, if they just took Ohio State in their season finale. Michigan went into that one on a 10-game winning streak by an average score of 39-13. But it wasn't to be, as the Buckeyes (+4) destroyed the Wolves, 62-39, with a 656-401 yard edge. And that vs a Michigan squad whose defense entered at 13.5 points per game, & 234.8 yard per game. Thus, from a playoff spot, to a lesser bowl, while plunging to #8 in the polls. This marks UM's 47th bowl, & 8th in the last 9 years (2-5 SU, & 2-4-1 ATS). No questioning the improvement under Harbaugh (38-14 SU) with the Wolverines finishing 4th, 1st, 3rd, & 1st in total defense, although they are just a 1-2 bowl proposition, spread wise. Opponents state that their devastating loss to the Buckeyes kills any focus or dedication for this contest. However, I remember in '15, when an identical 10-1 Michigan outfit was demolished, 42-13, also in its season finale vs the Buckeyes. Thus, a match with Florida in the Citrus Bowl. Did they care? As noted above, they must have, as they mauled the Gators, 41-7, as a field goal favorite, with a 503-273 yard edge. Mullen's arrival from Mississippi State, has turned Gator fortunes around, with a 6-1 start (5-1 ATS), before ending 3-2 (1-3 ATS), coming from 108th & 78th in scoring & rushing offense, to 25th & 26th, respectively, is a true improvement. Rating: 4 Unit Big-12 Game of the Week Line opened at Baylor minus 1, and is now minus 2. How the pendulum doth swing. A near complete turnaround for these 2 this season. For the Bears, they've gone from last year's 1-11 log, to this season's 5-5, needing this for bowl eligibility. And for the Frogs, they've come from a perennial bowl squad (11-3 in '17), to a team which has been the victim of countless key injuries, resulting in a 4-6 log, with current spread runs of 0-7 & 1-10, failing to reach the 300-yard offensive plateau in 3 of their last 4 games, & are in off 47-10 loss to West Virginia (25-point ATS loss), while Bears pulled upset of Oklahoma State in their last home game. Right, these Bearcats, who are more than deserving, despite their level of competition. They've been a huge step ahead of the odds makers all season. Just one slip, & that in narrow road loss to always dangerous (& underrated) Temple. Last week, they demolished a Navy team, 42-0, & in so doing, kept the Mids out of the end zone, which hadn't happend to them since '12. Cincy: a 451-171 yard edge, as well. Sure, their lopsided loss at Lsu didn't help, but that was simply a classic SEC home upset, which makes that league so special. Truth is, the 'Dawgs are still very much in the mix for the National Title playoffs, currently ranking 5th. Thus, no possibility of anything but full focus. USC hasn’t been able to run very well this season, and a pass-heavy plan as they prep #3 QB, red shirt freshman Jack Sears, would seem to be a good recipe for losing. There doesn’t seem to be a best-case scenario here for the home side. The Trojans’ defense suffered a major blow when linebacker Porter Gustin was lost for the season a couple of weeks ago. Giving up 40+ in defeat at Utah was not a good way to resume playing without him. The exposure could continue to be exploited.

A 353-211 point deficit in their last 9 games, following a 3-0 getaway. QB Shurmer returns, but so does Raider QB Stockstill. Middle Tennessee averaging 35.8 points per game in their L5 games.

Rating: 3 Units Bowl Game of the Day This year's 'Tide hasn't been as overpowering as usual, with but one cover vs bowl opponents, which is mainly due to a "D" that has suffered an abnormal amount of injuries. But even with that, they rank 3rd, 7th, 1st, & 2nd in run, pass, scoring, & total "D". So, still a huge force. The last 2 years, we've bucked the Tigers in their semi-final games vs Oklahoma & Ohio State. Mistake & mistake, as CU (-3½, +1½) dominated both with a combined score of 68-17, and a 1,000-593 yd edge! Absolutely stunning, especially in light of the fact that both the Sooners & Buckeyes entered with identical 11-1 records. Dabo sure can coach. QB Bryant is no Watson, but Tigers more than match for anyone. Take the points

Rating: 3 Unit Bowl Game of the Day The Bulldogs have been one of our "goto" squads this year, with their 8 wins coming by an average of 21 points per game SU, & 10.2 points per game ATS, but also heed 2 of their 4 losses coming by 28, 39 points (#3 Georgia, #7 Auburn). Their offensive fireworks have overshadowed one of the finest stop units in the land (#10). They have, however, lost the services of QB Fitzgerald, who, like his predecessor, Dak Prescott, could do it all, both overhead (1,782 passing yards, 56%, 15/11), & overland (984 rushing yards, 14 TDs). And how about seeing 9th-yr HC Mullen leave for the Florida Gators. This all adds up to solid win for dedicated Cards.

Rating: 4 Unit Bowl Game of the Week For the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest, this marks just their 12th bowl game, the first coming in their 26-14 win over South Carolina, in the '46 Gator Bowl, & the latest, in last year's Military Bowl, when, as 11-pt underdogs vs Temple, they jumped to a 31-7 lead, holding on for the 34-26 win. That one was noteworthy for 2 reasons: the fact that the Owls entered on a 10-0 ATS run; & holding Temple to minus 20 RYs, (TU at 190 RYpg at game time). For Wake, back-to-back bowl seasons, on the heels of 8 straight losing campaigns, including 3-9 records in '14 & '15. They're led by QB Wolford, who ranks 10th in passing efficiency, throwing for 2,792 yards, 64%, & a sensational 25/6. In back-to-back-to-back games vs Louisville, NoDame & Syracuse, he threw for 1,155 yds, 69%, & 10/1, leading Wake to 143 points, Oh, in that Syracuse game, Deacs turned a 17-pt second half deficit, into a 21-point win. So not much wrong with Deacs' 27th, ranked "O", nor a spread streak that now stands at 16-6-1.

Rating: 3 Unit Bowl Game of the Day The Cowboys are an annual fixture among the elites, placing 9th in our "Polls" this year. The arrival of Mike Gundy in '05, has resulted in 12 straight bowl seasons, with at least 10 wins in 5 of the past 7 years, nearly meeting for the '11 national title game, before an impossible 37-31 loss to 26½ pt underdog on week #11 shattered that dream. They have been led by brilliant QB Rudolph (4,553 yards, 65%, & 35/9), who has thrown for 13,267 yards in his career, & 84/22 the past 3 years. But he isn't the only cog in this wheel, as Hill is at 1,347 RYs (14 TDs), & WRs Washington & Ateman have combined for 2,572 receiving yards, averaging 20.6 & 19.4 yards per catch. Oklahoma State ranks 3rd in scoring, 1st in passing, & 2nd in total "O". Can Tech's 5th & 10th ranked scoring & total "D" contain 'em. No way.

Rating: 3 Unit Bowl Game of the Week There has only bee two teams that have outplayed every one of their opponents this season, the mighty Sooners of Oklahoma, & the unnoticed Bulls of South Florida. So, moving the ball has hardly been a problem, especially since the prolific Quinton Flowers took over the leadership role in '15. He has amassed 11,201 yards the past 3 years, with USF compiling a 28-9 SU record, while gracing the Miami Beach & Birmingham Bowls, prior to this year's defense of the latter bowl. His worth is nearly impossible to overstate. Just check USF's season finale game with a perfect Central Florida, where he piled up 503 passing yards with 4 touchdowns and 1 interception along with 102 rushing yards, tying it on an 83-yard TD pass in the final 1:41, only to lose on a TD return of the ensuing KO. This marks the Bulls' 3rd straight bowl game, & 9th in the last 13 years. The line on this one is a bit perplexing, as the balanced attack of the Bulls seems to more than counter Tech's one-dimensional offense
